Men build civilization for their posterity
Earlier today, I replied to someone who said that men create civilization for women.
I said no, men create civilization for their descendants, which is why they restricted female sexual behavior and didn’t allow them to have a say in politics.
I just realized this is precisely why the American Founding Fathers fought the Revolution, and why, in the Preamble to the Constitution, it says: “and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.”
This is why the Naturalization Act of 1790 was passed, which restricted citizenship to free white persons of good character, and until 1965, restricted immigration to people of European descent.
It’s also why most of the states restricted the voting franchise to free white men who owned property or paid taxes.
It’s also why, later, even some of the most ardent abolitionists wanted to repatriate slaves to Africa or elsewhere, to say nothing of the anti-miscegenation laws, because the whole point of the civilization they built was for their own descendants, not for the entire world.
This was a perfectly natural thing for them to do, and it has been the driving impulse for men to work hard, sacrifice, and establish an order so that their descendants could continue to flourish for as long as possible.
Think about it. Nature does everything it can to try to get your genes, or those of your kin, as far into the future as it can.
As Dr. Brett Weinstein often says, consciousness, by which he means the distributed system of human minds within a community, enables humans to adapt to novel situations more quickly than natural selection would otherwise allow.
There are many different kinds of societies at varying scales of complexity that utilize this mechanism, but at its core, what the men who build civilization do is take the best ideas on how to live, developed over time and proven in the fire of trial and error, and pour them into a concrete structure for the furtherance of its own genes and it’s future prosperity.
And because women always know a child is their own, men enacted laws and customs to guard their mates from each other, but also to keep out the men who could pose a future threat to the continuance of their line.
Namely, people too far removed from them genetically, which, according to certain WASPs, meant anyone not from Northwestern Europe.
This is the logic of patriarchy. It’s also the logic of nationalism.
Given that this is such a natural state of affairs, the question inevitably arises, why then did it change?
Why did America go from being a nation with the express purpose of being exclusively for the founders’ progeny to being what it is today?
The answer, quite simply, is slave morality.
And when you start to pull on that thread and see who has been behind the promotion of slave morality over the natural and healthy master morality, the entire 20th century onward makes a whole lot of sense.
This isn’t a major revelation to some, but sometimes it hits me that I never truly understood something that was in plain sight of me for my whole life.
